This alley home was built as both a part time residence for the owner and a gallery for his car and motorcycle collection. The program includes a single loft bedroom above an open living and kitchen plan, which is immediately adjacent to the four car garage / gallery. The form and space are simple and yet very dramatic with the material palette consisting primarily of concrete, concrete block and steel with numerous custom wood elements throughout the home. The loft bedroom opens up to a roof deck with city views and overlooks the courtyard and living room below. The most dramatic design feature is the indoor outdoor living environment which includes and operable steel door that is 24′ tall and 12′ wide.
