The Harrell-Shively residence is designed to showcase the paintings of John K. Harrell, a well-known Denver artist and gallery owner. The main floor includes a working art studio as well as entertainment space that opens to gardens and patios. The home “lives large” by emphasizing the modern ideal of indoor/outdoor continuity. Patio doors disappear when open and an outdoor fireplace invites exploration beyond the walls of the house. The architecture is decidedly modern, but grounded by organic materials and an earth-bound color palette. Reflecting this aim, the name for the home is Los Colores (“The Colors”).
